The Economist ‘The Knowledge’

Famously, David Abbott originated the wonderful and long-running Economist campaign.

One Sunday at AMV we were all in working on a Sainsbury’s brief.

David came to see how my partner Greg Martin and I were getting on and, whilst chatting to us, noticed some Economist layouts we were planning to show him the following week.

On top of the pile was this idea.

‘That’s good’, he said and a few weeks later it was running on black cabs all over London.

* London black cab drivers have to pass a test, The Knowledge, before being awarded a licence.
